“The Road not Taken”

Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference

As we conclude another academic year at Young Harris College, our worlds continue to open before us, exposing many opportunities and obscuring others. In this final iChapel of the 2010-2012 academic year, Robert Frost reminds us that our challenge is to spend less time considering the roads not taken but the real possibilities afforded by the one chosen. Choose wisely; choose love; choose hope; choose generosity; choose grace; choose faith; choose peace; choose life. Remember what has passed, embrace what is to come, and regularly look around to give thanks for those who travel with us and our God who sometimes carries us.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
